5-STARS' IDENTITY
5-STARS' IDENTITY

An object-based media installation (2009) - 5-stars' identity expresses the notion of transmediation, examining the properties of dynamic complex systems in association with ready-made objects. New aesthetic possibilities are explored by having the inter-relationship of technology, media and objects, leading to a hybridisation in sensorial transformation. The view of Chinese culture from various parts of the world will be shown on five mobile phones. Selected data is translated from Internet media and displayed on the phones with different languages, and each phone will perform with a different behaviour, subject to political and environmental events. Technology facilitates human communication across distant boundaries with immediate results. However, our reliance on technology in daily communication brings with it the inevitable miscommunications. 5-stars’ identity reveals the controversial relationship between technology and translation.
