MISTAKES
MISTAKES
MISTAKES come from the images that my computer generated while trying to open a corrupted jpg file of one of my digital drawings. A 10-pixel strip from my authentic drawing remained intact at the top of each mutated image. The rest of the file would change every time I opened it.
I decided to collect the mistakes rather than to discard them as a nuisance. Obviously some information about the original was lost. I kept on trying to open the file in its regular version. Yet from the myriad of results none was close to the original. Paradoxically the missing data caused the formation of a new structure of shapes and colors. The feeling of unpredictability and lack of control intrigued me. I gathered a large library of the variations of how my computer struggled to fill in for the missing information.
I realized I owned an image of dual nature. It was concrete in its existence as code on the hard drive and at the same time ephemeral, changing with every regeneration. I wished to preserve this indefinable object on the borderline of two imaginations - mine and that of the machine. And I started making MISTAKES.
