The first event on the DA Fest programme is a performance of two artists who graduated from the National Academy of Arts; Albena Baeva and Petya Boyukova, together with musicians Svilen Ivanov, Atanas Ilchev and Sergei Glinkov, they created an audio-visual platform for communication and interaction between different artists and their interests. For the Empty Set performance, they created custom hardware, which includes a glass standing-bass and a banjo. The two instruments are semi-acoustic and semi-electric, and have an input to custom-build software that controls video in real-time. The use of custom software and hardware, which has long-standing tradition in contemporary music and the visual arts, is still a new practice for Bulgaria.
